Sugar Skull Mug Gift Tag – Spellbinders Craftoween Day 8

Today I’m sharing the tag I made with the Day 8 dies from the Spellbinders 13 Days of Craftoween 2025 Advent Calendar. As soon as I saw these dies, I knew I wanted to do a sugar skull theme. I love the bright colors of this one and I can’t wait to pass it on to someone.

All my Craftoween tags have been made using the Spellbinders Essential Arches die set. I used the 7th largest die to cut from a marigold yellow cardstock and also a piece of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110lb. I glued the yellow tag to the white and set it aside.

For my die cuts, I used cardstock scraps in bright colors of pink, purple, orange, blue and green. The flowers are from the Little Blooms die set from Spellbinders. I assembled those and then assembled my mug. The orange hearts for the eyes come from the die for the nose. I just cut two additional from orange cardstock and placed those over the black area and I think that really made it look complete. I also added a small petal in the center above the nose and eyes.

Once I started placing my elements onto the tag, I realized the tag felt a little flat with the solid background. So I decided to add some embossing with an embossing folder. The one I used is no longer available but I’ll link something similar as a substitute. The one I used is the Seamless Floral Embossing Folder from Spellbinders. That was exactly what it needed. Then I added an eyelet with my Crop-a-Dile Eyelet punch.

I added my flowers and greenery to the bottom of the tab. The center flower is popped up some foam tape. Then I added foam tape to the mug and adhered that over the flower arrangement. I added some silver gemstones to the eyes and then black for some additional embellishment on the tag.

For the ribbon, I chose 5 that coordinated with the colors on my tag. It’s a mixture of Stampin’ Up and Michael’s. I fed all but the black ribbon through my eyelet. Using the black polka dot ribbon, I tied those off with a knot and trimmed the ends.
