Super Fun Spider Web Shaker Card

It’s almost time for spooky season and I was so excited to grab my Halloween stash from Pretty Pink Posh that I never found time to use last year. Of course I had to make a shaker and the fun Spider Web Cover Plate was perfect for what I wanted to create.

Now let’s talk about the background first. I wanted to make something fun but step outside my comfort zone a bit. I’ve had my Altenew shimmer sprays for a while and just too intimidated to use them but I decided to just play and see what happened. I wanted splotchy and moody so I grabbed Cosmic Berry and Lavender Fields plus some watercolor paper. I placed my paper in my splatter box and sprayed it with some water. Then I just sprayed some sections with the Lavender Fields, let it spread with the water and then sprayed other sections with the Cosmic Berry. Then I used my heat tool to set the color and dry. It created such a cool effect and look.

I cut my spider web from Gina K Designs Slate cardstock and then applied some white and black splatter with Altenew gouache in Titanium White and Carbon Black. I also applied that same splatter to my background once it was dry. I cut my little spiders from black glitter cardstock for some extra fun.

To make the sentiment really stand out, I cut the words from white cardstock and then the shadow from black. I also added a cute stitched ghost from the Stitched Ghosts die set. I used an alcohol marker in a pale pink to give him some rosy cheeks.

Once my splatter had dried on my spider web, I used some double-sided sticky tape to adhere a piece of acetate to the back. Then I used some Gina K Designs shaker foam strips to create my shake window. I used a mixture of confettis from Trinity Stamps which I have linked at the end of this post. After adhering my background my A2 card base, I adhered that to my shaker window. Applying liquid glue to the shaker strips helps give you a little wiggle to get the right alignment on your card base.

After creating the shaker, I applied the sentiment, ghost and spiders to the front with liquid glue. The white elements really pull your eye in because they are such a contrast against the dark background. All the shiny shaker confetti created some fun sparkle behind the spider web making this one of my favorite Halloween cards I’ve ever made.

Now I can’t call it complete until I do something to the inside of my card. I kept it pretty simple with some black gouache splatter in diagonal corners with a sentiment stamped in Midnight Violet Altenew Fresh Dye Ink. Then I used an additional ghost and a couple purple spiders to finish it off. My ghost didn’t really stand out against the white card panel so I used a blending brush with some leftover black/gray ink to create some shading around the edges. Then I used a Crop-a-Dile stub punch to create the corner detail on the panel. I thought it tied in well with the shape of the spider web on the front. I adhered that with liquid glue to finish off this card.
