Stamp Layering – Altenew Dainty Bouquet
Hello friends! I was recently accepted in the Altenew Educator Certification Program. This is something I’m very excited about and I’ll be sharing my journey through the program with all of you. For the first two levels of the program, I will be progressing through a number of online classes and showcasing the cards I create using techniques from those classes. I have been making handmade cards for ten years now and I’m still learning new things. I’m definitely feeling so inspired! Now, if I could just find more time in the day.
The first class I completed was All About Layering 3 with Lydia Evans. It was all about the basics of stamp layering and if you haven’t checked out Altenew’s layering stamps, you are missing out. They have created some really gorgeous floral layering sets that will make you feel like an artist.
For my card, I took inspiration from Lydia’s Bride-to-Be card in lesson 5. She placed her stamped and die cut floral images over a panel that had been cut using a cover plate. Instead of a cover plate, I decided to use a stenciled background to add subtle interest. It’s definitely an easy way to step up your card design.

I chose the Dainty Bouquet layering bundle for this card. To stamp the focal images, I followed the guide provided with the stamp set. These are so helpful in knowing how to line up the layered images and I’m so thankful Altenew has gone the extra mile to eliminate the guesswork. They even give guidance on which inks to use on each stamp to help you get the perfect layered look.
- Largest image – Polar Bear Fresh Dye Ink
- Floral second layer – Coral Bliss Fresh Dye Ink
- Floral third layer – Heart Beat Fresh Dye Ink
- Leaves second layer – Lagoon Fresh Dye Ink
- Leaves third layer – Emerald Fresh Dye Ink
It’s important to use a light color for the first layer because the rest of your colors will be layered on top. You wouldn’t want to use a color that would interfere with colors you choose for the flowers and leaves. I also recommend using a stamp positioner like the Altenew Stampwheel or Misti Stamping Tool from My Sweet Petunia to ensure you get the best results. Once I completed the stamping, I die cut each floral cluster using the coordinating dies.

For the background, I cut a panel of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80lb cardstock to 5 1/4 by 4 inches. Using the Water Builder stencil and Waffle Flower grip mat, I ink blended over the stencil focusing most of my color in the center and then working my way out. I used Pink Lemonade ink from Concord & 9th to create a soft color blend with a Concord & 9th medium blending brush.
I arranged my floral clusters on the stenciled card panel using liquid glue leaving some areas free to stand up off the card. Then I chose my sentiment from the Classic Greetings stamp set. I stamped using Mushroom ink from Concord & 9th and die cut with the coordinating die. I popped this up using foam adhesive squares from Simon Says Stamp and then added the dew drop embellishments as a final touch. This panel was adhered to an A2 card base using the same Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80lb cardstock.

For the inside card panel, I used the same Water Builder stencil but worked my Pink Lemonade ink from the outside in to highlight the area for my sentiment. I chose another sentiment from the Classic Greetings set and stamped directly onto the card panel using Mushroom ink.

I hope this card sparked some inspiration. Grab your layering sets and create something beautiful. Thanks for stopping by today. Now go get creative!
