Potion Bottle Shaker Tag – Spellbinders Craftoween Day 3

I’m on a tag making spree with my Spellbinders 13 Days of Craftoween box. I’ve got tons of ribbon to use and what better way to use it than on tags. Plus, the more ribbon I use, the more room I have for more craft supplies. It’s a strategy.

When I opened the Day 2 dies, I knew they would make a great shaker. I used the same Essential Arches dies from Spellbinders for my tag shape. Given the size of the potion bottle, I knew I wanted another element on the tag to help fill up some space so I grabbed the raven from the Day 2 die set. I die cut my pieces from scrap color and white cardstock.

To create my raven, I ink blended with the following Distress Oxide Inks:

In addition, the tag background was created with the following colors:

To create my shaker window, I use the label background die in the set. I found the placement I wanted the potion bottle to have on my tag and then taped that die down on my tag where I wanted to cut the window. I ran that through my die cutting machine and then also ran my potion bottle through to cut a window from that as well. For my tag backer, I used the same size arch and blended Black Soot Distress Oxide ink onto that. Then I cut a piece of acetate to fit behind the shaker window on my tag and adhered that with double-sided tape.

The shaker beads I wanted to use were a little thicker so I needed a lot of clearance for them to be able to move around. To achieve this, I used some foam shaker strips and stacked them as a double layer. I lined the perimeter of the shaker window with those and then placed my shaker beads inside. As for where I got the beads, I really couldn’t tell you. LOL I’ve had these things for so long that I’ve forgotten where I purchased them. BUT, look at me finally using my supplies. That’s what it’s all about right? To ensure the rest of my tag didn’t sag, I put some foam adhesive stacked up to the same height. This is a THICK tag but it’s fun. Once all my adhesive was in place, I placed my backer on.

After assembling my die cut pieces, I placed them on the tag to ensure I was happy with the placement. Then I adhered those down with liquid glue. My raven looked a little bland with his gray eye so I popped a little black rhinestone there to make it stand out. I stamped the sentiment in Versafine Onyx Black ink using the stamp set included in the box. Then I fussy cut that using some sharp scissors. That’s a really good tip for fussy cutting by the way. Make sure your scissors are SHARP so you get a good smooth cut. After gluing down my sentiment, I added some Trinity Stamps Espresso Grounds Confetti embellishments.

Now, every tag needs a ribbon…..or six. I thought the colors on this tag really gave it some Beetlejuice vibes so I had to choose a ribbon with some black stripes. Since this was a shaker tag, I couldn’t punch a hole to feed the ribbon through. So, I created a loop between the front and back of my tag with a thin piece of acetate and some double-sided tape to hold it in place. My ribbon is a mixture of retired Stampin’ Up ribbon and some I’ve bought over the years from Michael’s. I don’t know that I’ll ever be able to use it all and I’ll probably buy more if I’m being honest.

That’s my Craftoween Day 3 tag! I hope you’re inspired to create some Halloween tags of your own using supplies you already have….and maybe have had for years. 😉 If you want to check out my process video, click on the link to my YouTube channel below.
