Holiday Card – Clean and Simple
Hi friends. I’m back with another clean and simple card. This time, I created a holiday card and took inspiration from the Easy Die Cutting Techniques class from Altenew. In this class, Yana Smakula shares lots of tips and tricks for using your dies. In her first lesson, she talks about using your die cuts to make a simple card. When I purchased the Tree Mix die set, I knew the trees would make a perfect CAS style card.
I gathered a light pink, green and gray cardstock. Soft, light colors remind me of the stillness and quiet of winter. Using all the dies from the set, I cut them all from each color of cardstock. Once cut, I mixed and matched the trees until I found the combinations I liked and I adhered those together with Art Glitter glue. Next, I took a piece of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80lb cardstock and cut a panel with the third largest rectangle from the Hero Arts Nested Rectangles die set. I placed my assembled trees on that white panel as shown below and adhered with my liquid glue.

For my card base, I used a piece of the same white cardstock measuring 8 1/2 by 5 1/2 inches scored at 4 1/4 inches. I adhered my tree panel onto my card base with liquid glue. Once I did this, I realized I meant to pop that panel up to give it some dimension. No worries! To make it stand out a bit, I decided to cut a rectangle border out of silver metallic cardstock. I used the same nested rectangle dies and used the second and third largest rectangles to cut a thin border and then adhered that around my tree panel with liquid glue. A happy accident because I think I like the silver border even better.

For my sentiment, I used my Spellbinders Merry and Bright Sentiment Strips press plate and dies. You can create a lot of sentiments at once this way. I used the recommended Porcelain BetterPress A2 Cotton Card Panel, inked the press plate with BetterPress Black ink and ran through my die cutting machine. This system is seriously so easy to use and the results are stunning every time! I removed my pressed sentiment panel and then ran it back through my die cutting machine with the coordinating die.
I chose a few of my favorite sentiments and placed each on the card front to see which looked the best. Ultimately, I chose Season’s Greetings. The cotton cardstock definitely needs some support if you want to pop it up on your card so I used some white paper scraps instead of foam tape. This gives it more solid support and I have tons of scraps to use. I put about four layers of cardstock strips behind it and then glued to my card front with liquid glue. To finish off the front, I used some flat confetti from Trinity Stamps Moonlight embellishment mix.

For the inside, I used the third largest nested rectangle die again to cut a panel of Neenah white cardstock. I placed that in my Misti stamping tool and stamped my sentiment from the Joyous Sentiments stamp set. I used Versafine Onyx Black ink and it stamped beautifully. The scripty font in this set is my favorite. With my sentient stamped, I grabbed another tree from the pile I created at the start and adhered to the bottom right of that panel and trimmed the excess. Then I adhered that panel to the inside of my card. I love how this turned out and it was so easy! These tree dies are really fun to play with and would be great to create a set of cards as a gift because you can cut so many trees at once. You would have a set of cards in no time.

That’s it for this clean and simple holiday card! I hope you’re inspired to create one of your own. Thanks for stopping by today. Now go get crafty!
