Creative Ink Blending – Make Rainbow Flowers
Hi there! Today I have a card featuring multi-color ink blending. After completing the online Polychromatic Card Class from Altenew, I knew I wanted to create this card. I’m still using the Translucent Foliage stamp set because I just love it so much. This might be my favorite card I’ve made with this set so far.
I’ve seen Laura Bassen use this sort of rainbow ink blending technique on a lot of cards so I tried it here. I think it turned out beautiful! The Translucent Foliage bundle has a stamp set along with coordinating dies and stencils. I used the whole bundle on this card.

I started by stamping my images onto a piece of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80lb cardstock. To ensure I got a good stamp impression, I used my Stampwheel 2.0. This stamping platform has a large base with a removable side so I was able to place an entire 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper onto the sticky mat. This allowed me to stamp every single image I needed for this card. I stamped four flowers and all of the leaves in the set. I stamped some additional leaf clusters as well to ensure I had plenty to place around my flowers.

For all my stamping and ink blending, I used Altenew Fresh Dye Inks. Each flower was stamped with Blush Rose and each leaf with Mossy Meadow. Using the coordinating stencils, I ink blended with the colors listed below using my Concord & 9th medium blending brushes. You have to be careful not to ink blend the green into the pink because you’ll end up with a brown color…which isn’t what we’re going for here. I used the colors randomly to create multi-colored flowers. I did not stencil the flower centers just yet. You’ll see why. For the leaves, I used Mossy Meadow but also applied Blush Rose to some areas to create interest. This is not a color combo you would think to use on leaves but it works. Also a trick I learned from Laura Bassen. Once I had colored all my images using the stencils, I used the coordinating dies to cut all my images.
Inks Used:

I die cut the the flowers before I stenciled the centers because I wanted to use Solar Paste with that part of the stencil. If I had applied the paste before die cutting, it would have flattened when I ran it through the die cutting machine. So, using my grip mat from Waffle Flower, I applied Golden Hour Solar Paste to each flower center using the coordinating stencil. Then I allowed those to dry.
To create some interest on the background, I used the Garden Trellis Cover Die to cut a panel from Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80lb cardstock. I adhered that to an A2 card panel of the same white cardstock using liquid glue. Then I placed that into my splatter box and used Distress Spritz in Fossilized Amber to create some gold splatter across the background.

Next, I placed three of the flowers onto the card front along with some of the leaves and adjusted until I was satisfied with the placement. Then I adhered those down with liquid glue and trimmed the excess from the sides of the card with scissors. For my sentiment, I used the Thanks word and shadow die from the Versatile Greetings die set. I cut the “thanks” from gold foil cardstock and the shadow layer from white. I also cut another “thanks” from white cardstock for a little extra dimension behind the gold. I adhered all the layers together and then adhered to my card using liquid glue. Lastly, I added some Gold Coin Confetti Embellishments from Trinity Stamps to complete my card front.
For the inside of the card, I used my remaining flower and leaves. I cut a panel of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80lb cardstock to 4 x 5 1/4. I temporarily placed the flower and leaves in the bottom left corner. That gave me an idea of where my gold splatter should be. I placed the panel in my splatter box with a piece of printer paper at a diagonal covering the part of the card where I did not want to apply splatter. I created the splatter using the same Distress Spritz and allowed that to dry. Then I adhered my flower and leaves with liquid glue and trimmed the excess from the panel. I used my Stampwheel 2.0 again to stamp the inside sentiment and then adhered that panel to the inside of my card.

That completed this card! Do you like the creative ink blending? I thought it was a unique look and I’m really happy with this card. Get out your stamps and stencils and try it for yourself! I appreciate you stopping by today. Now go get crafty!
