One Card Three Ways – Altenew Jack Pine

Today I’m sharing one card design three ways. The Jack Pine Tree die set from Altenew is simple yet versatile. You can change up the color layers, do ink blending, watercolor….the possibilities are endless. For the purposes of this post, I’m going to show you how to take a very clean and simple card to the next level by adding a few very simple touches.

For the first and most simple card, I die cut each layer from a different color of cardstock in a fall color theme. Then I assembled the tree according to the numbered pieces. This is a Key Hole die set which means there are tiny key holes cut into each die piece that helps you align them. Next to each key hole is a number that tells you what order to adhere the pieces. It’s genius! I added a mat of Green Gold cardstock behind my card panel and then adhered that to my A2 card base. I adhered my tree with liquid glue and then added a foiled sentiment from the Essential Sentiments Hot Foil Plate and Die set. Normally I would add embellishments but I’m really trying to lean in to the clean and simple which goes against every instinct I have…hahaha.

For the next card, I followed the same steps but I added a little something extra in the form of splatter. I used Titanium White Gouache and colored it with a Stampin’ Up re-inker I’ve had for a long time. Then I added additional splatter with Brutus Monroe Shimmer Splash in Gilded for a little shine. I also added some splatter to a panel I would use for the inside which I also adhered to a Green Gold cardstock mat. The sentiment came from the same sentiment set which is a great set for prepping lots of sentiments at once. I actually prepped a bunch of sentiments in various colors of foil last year and I just pulled from that stash.

For the final card, I decided to die cut from watercolor cardstock and then watercolor each layer. I used the Altenew Watercolor Compact in Deep Muse because those seemed like good fall colors. I used Mossy Oak, Golden Ochre, and Raspberry Rose to create the colors for each leaf layer and then Origin Umber for the trunk. I’m not great at watercoloring but this was the easiest watercoloring I’ve ever done. I let those layers dry and then adhered them together with liquid glue. I used the same gouache splatter for this card as the other but omitted the gold splatter. Then I added a sentiment from the same sentiment set. This one is my favorite because I think the watercolor just really elevated the tree.

That’s my progression through the world of clean and simple cards. I have to say these cards were FAST to make. Even the watercolor version.
