Christmas Card – Layered Poinsettia Tree
Hi friends! It’s mid-October and Christmas will be here before we know it. Back in August, my friends and I got together for a craft day and made this Christmas card. It looks complicated but I promise you, it’s so easy!
I love piecing together die cuts. It’s like completing a puzzle. Die cut layering sets bring me so much joy. My card features the Layered Poinsettia Tree die set from Spellbinders. This set is not complicated to assemble and I even used it for a craft day Christmas card project with a group of friends. I started by making a template for my tree to help me place the die cut leaves and flowers in the right place. Using both the outline and the detail tree dies, I lined them up together to cut one image using Mint Macaron cardstock from Stampin’ Up. This gave me the template and my greenery.

Next, I cut the remaining dies from Stampin’ Up cardstock as follows:
- Solid Tree Background – Evening Evergreen
- Poinsettia Flowers – Petal Pink
- Roses – Flirty Flamingo (detail) and Petal Pink (solid backing)
- Flower Centers, Berries, Star, Joy Banner Backing – Champagne Foil
- Joy Banner – Mint Macaron
To add a little dimension and interest, I ink blended the leaves and poinsettia flowers. For the poinsettias, I used Grapefruit ink from Concord & 9th. I inked the die cuts so that every other leaf in the flower would be a darker shade. Next, I ink blended the leaves with Eucalyptus ink from Concord & 9th. I blended darker areas on the leaves randomly just to create some variation.

Once my ink blending was complete, it was time to assemble the tree. I grabbed my Evening Evergreen tree base and placed my Mint Macaron template over it perfectly lining it up. Then placed each Mint Macaron die cut in the appropriate space and glued down using Art Glitter glue. Be careful not to also glue down your template. When all the greenery die cuts were glued down, I removed my template. Now it was time to place the flowers. The poinsettias take a bit of time to place because you have to figure where each leaf cluster lines up on the greenery base. You shouldn’t be able to see the green cardstock underneath if you have it in the right place. The roses have two layers so you just need to glue the detail layer onto the base layer. Finally, I glued the berries and flower centers in place and my tree was complete minus the star.

For my card panel, I used a piece of Petal Pink cardstock cut to 4 1/4 by 5 1/2 inches. I placed it in my Christmas Wrap Pattern embossing folder from Spellbinders and ran that through my Platinum Six Die Cutting machine. Then I glued that to my Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80lb A2 side folding card base.
With my embossed card panel in place, I applied foam adhesive squares to the back of my tree and placed it on my card about 1/2 inch from the bottom. Then I placed the star on top also using foam adhesive. For the Joy banner, I glued the Mint Macaron die cut to the Champagne foil backer, offsetting just a bit. I then applied that top left of my card using foam adhesive. The final touch was adding some Fairy Aura embellishments from Trinity Stamps.

Don’t leave just yet. We still have finish off the inside. I like to tie the inside to the card front in some way. For this card, I used the same embossing folder and embossed a Petal Pink card panel measuring 4 by 5 1/2 inches. Then I cut a piece of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80lb to 3 3/4 by 5 1/4 inches. I stamped the sentiment from the Concord & 9th Festive Phrases stamp set in Rainforest ink using my Misti Stamping tool. I glued that piece to my embossed card panel and then glued to the inside of my card base. Now the card was complete!

I hope you feel inspired create some Christmas cards of your own. Thanks for stopping by today. Light your favorite holiday candle, grab a cozy drink and go get creative!
